Introduction

Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the 1976 Tangshan earthquake and to honor the heroic efforts of the people of Tangshan in earthquake relief and reconstruction with the help of people nationwide. In 1995, it was designated as the "Hebei Province Patriotic Education Base" by the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and the provincial government, and jointly designated as the "National Patriotic Education Base for Primary and Middle Schools" by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall is located on the west side of the Earthquake Memorial Monument Square in the center of Tangshan City. It was established in 1986 with an initial building area of about 1,488 square meters, named "Tangshan Earthquake Data Exhibition Hall". In 1996, on the 20th anniversary of earthquake relief and reconstruction, the Tangshan Municipal Committee and the municipal government conducted a renovation and expansion, and it was renamed "Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall" with an increased building area of 5,380 square meters. In order to better fulfill its role as a base, in 1999, the Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall renovated two projection halls, added recording and playback equipment such as video projection, and physical display cabinets, as well as promoted earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation knowledge. Currently, the exhibition area of Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall is 2,500 square meters, with more than 100,000 words of background materials. There is also a large comprehensive exhibition "Today Tangshan - Exhibition of Tangshan City's Achievements", divided into nine parts showcasing Tangshan's geographical location, resource distribution, earthquake losses, and the rise of the new Tangshan.
