Introduction
Suiyuan City General's Yamen is a historical and cultural site located on the west side of Gu Lou in Xincheng, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. In order to defend the northwest border, the Qing Dynasty built a city and stationed Manchu eight-banner officials and soldiers 2.5 kilometers northeast of the old city of Hohhot during the Yongzheng period (1723-1735). Suiyuan City was officially completed in the fourth year of Qianlong (1739), and the General's Yamen adopted the standard of a first-grade imperial governor's yamen, covering an area of 15,000 square meters. There is a tall shadow wall in front of the gate, with a pair of stone lions standing tall. The hall in the courtyard is divided into three sections. The front is the main hall, and the east and west corridors are on both sides. The middle is the public office, and the back is the general's private residence, with a total of 132 rooms. The General's Yamen also set up the position of Suiyuan General, commanding local garrison and jurisdiction over Mongol princes in the southern desert and garrisons in Datong and Xuanhua. Today, the site is a cultural relic protection unit in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and has basically maintained its original layout after multiple renovations.
