Introduction
Located on the banks of the Wujiang River in the southeastern part of Niutian Town, Liukeng Village is highly acclaimed for its beautiful natural environment, including picturesque mountains and rivers surrounded by flowing water. According to historical records, Liukeng Village was established during the Southern Tang Dynasty in the first year of the Shengyuan era, and has a history of more than a thousand years. As a village where the Dong clan, a single surname, reside, the majority of its inhabitants bear the surname Dong. The clan's founding father was Dong Zhongshu, a Confucian scholar of the Western Han Dynasty, while the founding ancestor traceable in the genealogy was Dong He of the Southern Tang Dynasty. During the Song Dynasty, Liukeng Village became the gathering place of a prominent family in Jiangnan mainly due to the number of Dong clan members who had passed the imperial exams, earning it the monikers of "one clan with five Jinshi scholars, two prime ministers in two dynasties, both civil and military zhuangyuan (number one scholar in national exam), and scholars as numerous as stars in the sky" and "Oudong Famous Village". Although the village suffered destruction during the Yuan Dynasty due to war, during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, knowledgeable individuals took over their forefathers' business, actively developing education, building temples and memorials, and promoting bamboo and timber trade, revitalizing Liukeng Village to its former prosperity.
