Introduction
Wenyoutai is located behind Dongshan Taishan Temple (also known as Dongyue Temple) in the northeast of Gaoyou District. According to historical records, this building was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty and has undergone multiple repairs. Most of the buildings were rebuilt in the 19th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1814). It is said that the name Wenyoutai originated from the tea and essay discussions that took place here between the cultural celebrities Su Shi, Sun Jue, Wang Gong, Qin Guan, and others when they passed through Gaoyou during the Song Dynasty. Wenyoutai was initially built during the Taiping Xingguo period of the Northern Song Dynasty (976) and was located on the top of Dongshan Mountain. From here, one can enjoy the surrounding natural scenery. Wenyoutai is surrounded by calligraphy works by famous scholars and has high artistic value. On its west side, there is also a Sìxián Temple built in the Ming Dynasty. There are museums on both the east and west sides, providing a window to explore the historical and cultural of Gaoyou.
