Introduction
Mount Xiangu, also known as Xianhua Mountain, is a peak in a low mountain and hilly landscape, with its main peak, the Shao Nu Feng, reaching an altitude of approximately 728 meters. Legend has it that it was named after XuanYuan Shao Nu Yuan Xiu, who achieved enlightenment and ascended to heaven after practicing here. The mountain rose during the Middle Ages approximately 150 million years ago, and was shaped by the Yanshan movement's fault crushing and volcanic activity to create the splendid landscape we see today.
Xianhua Mountain is divided into four scenic areas. The Xianhua Peak Forest area in the north is famous for its numerous steep rocks and strange boulders, the Meiwu Xiangxue area in the south is renowned for its fragrance-rich plum trees, with over several miles in length. The BaoZhang Yougu area in the east is an important site for the thousand-year-old monk BaoZhang's practice, while to the west, the Xianhu Bishui area is famous for its harmonizing beauty, where the mountain surrounds the water.
Mount Xiangu is renowned for its natural scenery of "stranges, dangers, wilderness, and mystery" in the south of the Yangtze River. There are 24 strange peaks, 14 odd rocks and caves, and over 120 scenic spots here. The Ming dynasty poet Liu Bowen once praised Xianhua as "the most peculiar peak, resembling clouds floating in space." And the famous writer and statesman from the Ming dynasty, Song Lian, acclaimed it as the "most exquisite area between heaven and earth."
