Introduction

During the Warring States period in ancient China, wars were frequent and the states were constantly vying for power, resulting in changes of ruling powers. According to historical records, in the fourth year of Duke Zhuang's reign, the Ji State lost a war against Qi and retreated to the State of Lu. On their way, they discovered this unique Gu (or Guzhu, a mountain pass with steep cliffs on either side) that was easy to defend due to its rugged terrain. The area also had fertile land and clean water for drinking, so they decided to build their second capital here. Later on, it was called Ji Wang Gu (or Ji Wang Pass). Nowadays, the Tianshang Wangcheng Scenic Area is located in Quanzhuang Township, Yishui County in the depths of the Yimeng Mountains. It is centered around the rare Guzhu landform in the Yimeng Mountains and is themed around the historical event of the Ji State moving its capital here during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The scenic area is divided into five sections for visitors to explore: the Wangcheng Cultural Experience Zone, the Qigu Scenic Observation Zone, the Shan Gu Folk Experience Zone, the Rural Amusement Park, and the Underground Ice Palace.
