Introduction

Smoke and Water Pavilion, located in the Gan Tang Lake on the southern bank of the Yangtze River in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, is one of the famous attractions in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is said to be the location of the barracks of the famous general Zhou Yu during the Three Kingdoms period. Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi first built a pavilion in the lake and named it "Lake-Immersing Moon Pavilion" after the line "When parting, the vast river merges with the moon". Song Dynasty philosopher Zhou Dunyi also built another pavilion on the lake embankment and named it "Smoke and Water Pavilion" after the line "The water and mountains are thinly veiled with smoke". Over time, both pavilions were destroyed. It was rebuilt in the late Ming Dynasty on the site of the Lake-Immersing Moon Pavilion.
