Introduction

Xizi Lake Ecological Tourism Area is a naturally serene ecological homeland located in the southeastern part of Tongcheng. It is named after children who often play in the lake. With its unique lake and mountain scenery, simple and rustic local customs, and abundant aquatic and terrestrial resources, it offers a refreshing return to nature and simplicity. The continuous wetlands along the lake are inhabited by rare migratory birds, creating a rare wetland landscape. During the season of rising lake water, Xizi Hill stands out, and the surrounding islands present beautiful scenery. The fishing villages are quaint, with fishing nets shining and the lives of fishermen full of interest. Songshan Mountain, towering by the lake, is composed of three peaks with lush vegetation and crisscrossing dark-colored rocks. From the top, the surrounding lake and mountain scenery are fully visible. Walking by the lake, with willows intoxicated in the spring mist and seagulls soaring, all scenes are picturesque. Boating on the lake, with emerald waves and shimmering ripples, it resembles an endless and boundless silk. Whether it's the rising morning glow, the setting sun in the west, the twinkling stars, the midday moon, the evening songs of fishermen, or the formation of geese in the cold, the end of the rural year, or the arrival of spring in the water country, all of them are delightful and make people linger. Xizi Lake is like a vivid painting and a wordless poem, evoking reverie and leaving a lasting impression. It is known as "Song Lake and Falling Geese," one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Tongcheng. Not far from Xizi Lake is a place called Luofeng Nest, a lakeside attraction where "thousands of people pay their respects during the day, and tens of thousands of lanterns illuminate the night" (Zhisheng). It gained its illustrious honor as the "Number One Residence in Jiangnan, as granted by the Emperor," when Zhang Ying, the father of Zhang Zhi (both of whom served as prime ministers), buried his mother here. Legends may obscure history, but history proves the spiritual and talented nature of this ancient city, and the illustrious achievements of its descendants who return home in glory, enjoying the status of pillars of the nation.
