Introduction

Fengguo Temple is one of the three largest temples of the Liao Dynasty in China, with its most famous feature being the iconic ancient architecture of the Grand Hall. The Grand Hall is the largest surviving Buddhist temple from ancient times and houses the world's oldest and largest collection of colored clay Buddhist statues. The main building of the temple, the Grand Hall, and the entire temple complex follow the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty, while also incorporating the layout of temples from the Liao and Jin periods, making it a typical masterpiece of temple architecture from the Liao and Jin periods. Especially the Grand Hall, it is the highest achievement of Buddhist architecture in the Liao Dynasty, representing the highest level of Chinese architecture in the 11th century. If you visit Fengguo Temple, you can also visit the nearby Wanfo Cave, which is quite worthwhile to see.
