Introduction

Galung La Mountain is a high peak connecting Motuo with an average altitude of 4800 meters. The mountain is extremely steep with varying terrain. The snow depth at the top of the mountain can reach 5 to 6 meters, and the snow only melts from June to September, making it passable. At other times, the snow on the roads is heavy, making it difficult to walk and the high mountains are completely closed, which is one of the reasons why Motuo is now considered a "plateau island". Located on the windward slope of the Himalayas and influenced by the Indian Ocean warm current climate, coupled with complex and frequent geological activities, the climate of Galung La Mountain is extremely variable, making it intimidating. This mountain is often referred to as the "sacred mountain" by locals because it is facing natural disasters such as avalanches, landslides, and floods that can occur at any time. The top of the mountain is covered with snow all year round, forming multiple glaciers, and the glacier meltwater eventually flows into the tributaries of the Yarlung Zangbo River. In addition to the ice lake formed by the melting of ice and snow, there are also alpine grasslands on the top of Galung La Mountain, with wildflowers blooming, showing typical modern glacial landforms.
