Introduction

Hui Zong Temple is located in Duolun County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It was built in the 30th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign (1691 AD). Kaldan, the leader of the Dzungar tribe in the western Gobi, launched a fierce attack on the southern Gobi with the support of Tsarist Russia. In 1690, Kangxi Emperor personally led a campaign and defeated Kaldan. The following year, Kangxi Emperor visited Duolun to meet with the three tribes of the northern Gobi and the 48 Mongolian nobles of the southern Gobi, known as the "Duolun Alliance." Kangxi Emperor agreed to the request of "building a temple to commemorate the victory" and began the construction of Hui Zong Temple.
