Introduction

Karst terrain (often referred to as stone forest) is a geological formation characterized by a group of tall, pillar-shaped features made of sedimentary rock, with steep vertical-sided walls and flat tops. They are a common occurrence in areas with soluble rocks, especially limestone, and often form in regions with a humid subtropical climates. One of the most famous karst terrains in China is the Shilin Stone Forest in Yunnan Province, which is home to a diverse and unique ecosystem that includes rare plant species and karst formations. It is particularly popular with tourists and is often referred to as the "Yunnan Stone Forest".
