Introduction

Bangong Lake is located on the border between China and Indian-controlled Kashmir, and is the boundary lake of the Ali area in the western Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The lake has an area of 604 square kilometers, an elevation of 4,241 meters, and a fresh water storage capacity of about 4.657 billion cubic meters. The lake is narrow in an east-west direction, with open water at both ends, and a river-like water body in the middle. There are multiple rivers flowing into the lake, such as Maga Zangbu, Duomaqu, and Angmai Qu. The lake water has the characteristic of being fresh in the east and salty in the west. The surrounding grasslands of Bangong Lake are lush and it is a good grazing area. The lake is home to abundant small-scale and scaleless fish, as well as several bird islands, which play a positive role in bird breeding and natural resource conservation. In recent years, cracked belly punting and cracked bare buttocks fish have been caught in the lake. Bangong Lake was originally under the management of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, but in recent years, it has been administratively under the Tibet Autonomous Region.
