Introduction

The Xiqianfodong is located on the west side of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, and is a cave that was carved onto the cliffs of the Danghe River before the Mogao Caves were constructed. The cave's structure, colored sculptures, and mural art style are very similar to those of the Mogao Caves. There are about 16 caves still extant, with approximately 9 of them available for viewing. The murals are brightly colored, but the statues are mostly destroyed. Furthermore, some of the caves are difficult to climb, so they can only be viewed from afar. Due to its inconvenient transportation, far fewer people visit here to appreciate the beauty compared to the Mogao Caves.
