Introduction

The Pingyao ancient county government office next to the Tingyu Tower was built during the Northern Wei Dynasty and is one of the well-preserved ancient government offices in China. The county government office is divided into three sections: left, center and right. The central axis runs from south to north and includes the gate, the ceremonial gate, the archway, the hall, the mansion gate, the second hall, and the inner mansion, extending all the way to South Heng Street. The building layout and functional setting can be seen as a miniature of the imperial palace. Many ancient documents and torture instruments are preserved in the museum, giving it a solemn and dignified feel. There is also a Guanyun Tower behind the county government office, where the county magistrate observes the weather and reflects the position of agriculture in feudalism in ancient Pingyao.

The attraction is located within the ancient town of Pingyao. Visitors need to enter the ancient town first and then walk to the attraction. The ancient town is not too big and can be explored on foot. There are many electric carts available inside the town which charge around 10-30 yuan. Elderly and children can consider taking this option. Additionally, visitors can also rent bikes and explore the ancient town and surrounding areas, which costs around 10 yuan for half a day.
