The total area of the reserve is 6,873 hectares, with a wetland area of 3,939 hectares. It is the only wetland bird nature reserve in Beijing. Over the past 50 years, it has developed into a wetland ecosystem with abundant animal and plant resources, high biodiversity, and stability. In summer, lotus flowers stand upright, reeds are lush green, and the golden wild chrysanthemums, pale purple saltmarshes, white reed heads, and brown cattail fruit spikes sway in the wind, creating a fairyland-like scene on the lake. Yeyahu is home to some special plants, including the second-class protected plant, Carex flava, and the only water-dwelling carnivorous plant in North China, Utricularia codonantha.
