Introduction
Haizishan Nature Reserve is located in the northern plateau region of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with an area of about 3,723 square kilometers, of which Litang County accounts for 2/3 and Daocheng County accounts for 1/3. The elevation of the reserve ranges from about 3,400 meters to 5,050 meters, with an average elevation of about 4,000 meters. It is a plateau hill that rose with the uplift of the Himalayan mountain range and is part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is known for the "Daocheng Ancient Ice Cap" and is the largest ancient ice relic on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The reserve is mainly composed of three different types of natural ecological environments: 1/4 is the original debris accumulation of the ancient Mediterranean sea floor, 1/4 is the primitive forest composed of main tree species such as the Sichuan-Yunnan high mountain oak, Populus cathayana and Abies squamata, 2/4 is the grassland and shrubbery of alpine wetlands. There are also 1,145 lakes of different sizes in the reserve, which have a unique size density in China. These lakes are called "Haizi" by the Tibetan people, which is also the origin of the name of Haizishan.
