Introduction

Kang Youwei was the main leader of the late Qing Dynasty's reform movement. After the failure of the reform, he went into exile overseas and returned to his homeland after the Xinhai Revolution. In 1923, Kang Youwei bought this building in Qingdao and was very satisfied with it, saying "Qingdao's house is the best I have ever had" and "this house is small but the garden is very large, with only a hundred steps from the sea". Kang Youwei used to stay here for a period of time every year until he passed away in Tianyou Garden on March 31, 1927.
