Introduction

The La Brea Tar Pits, located near Hancock Park in Los Angeles, California, is a group of natural tar pits. Over the years, the pits have been covered with materials such as leaves, dirt, and water, making it easy for animals to become trapped and leaving behind a large amount of bones and fossils. The George C. Page Museum is located next to the tar pits and is dedicated to studying the pits and the animal specimens found within them. The La Brea Tar Pits are a California historic landmark and a United States national natural landmark.
