Introduction

Žiča Monastery is one of the representative monasteries during the Nemanjić dynasty in Serbia. It was built in 1208 by Stefan Nemanja II (the "First-crowned") and Saint Sava (founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church). King Stefan was crowned here in 1217, establishing Serbia as a sovereign Christian state. After Saint Sava became the first Archbishop, Žiča Monastery was given an episcopal see.

Opening hours
From early April to the end of October, it is open from 11:00 to 16:00. From early November to the end of March of the following year, it is open from 10:00 to 15:00. It is closed on Sundays and religious holidays.
Transportation
Starting from Vernjaka Spa Village, drive west along Highway 5 to Kraljevo and turn onto Highway 410 to reach the monastery (GPS coordinates 43.696099E, 20.645853N). It takes about 45 minutes one way. Alternatively, one can take a bus from Vernjaka Spa Village to Kraljevo and then take a taxi to the monastery.
