Introduction

The Kozhaya Monastery is located in the Kozhaya Valley and its history can be traced back to the 12th century BC. Even before the emergence of Christianity, hermits were already practicing here. Today, the monastery is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, who is widely regarded as the patron saint of Christians, particularly the Maronite Christians, on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean. The monastery is situated in a valley called Arbet Kozhaya, which means "treasure of life." The village and the monastery are built in steep valleys. Over the years, each generation of monks has come to the Kozhaya Monastery in search of the treasure of God - a place of spiritual retreat. The Kozhaya Monastery is not only a famous tourist destination in northern Lebanon, but also a spiritual home for local Christians. Daily religious rituals and traditional ceremonies are held here. Built on the cliffs of mountain walls, the monastery is also known as the Cave Monastery. Part of it is also a museum, displaying the development of the monastery and the relics of the monks over the centuries.
