Introduction

Saadiyat Island is located at 24°32′09″N, 54°26′33″E off the coast of Abu Dhabi Island, covering a total area of 27 square kilometers. The island is currently under construction for commercial, residential, and leisure zones, with an investment of up to $27 billion. The project is expected to be completed by 2018 and become the cultural center of Abu Dhabi. The facilities on the island include the Marina, Cultural District, Saadiyat Island Park, Saadiyat Island Beach, South Beach, and Wetlands. The Marina covers an area of 4.4 square kilometers, which can accommodate more than 1,000 yachts and cruise ships, including boutique hotels, luxury apartments, marine aquariums, leisure and entertainment facilities, and commercial complexes. The Cultural District covers a total area of 2.7 square kilometers, containing a modern art museum, classical museum, and a performing arts center. Saadiyat Island Park covers an area of 6 square kilometers, and Saadiyat Island Beach covers an area of 4.33 square kilometers, featuring a 9-kilometer-long beach and five-star hotels, resorts, and beach clubs. South Beach covers an area of 2.68 square kilometers, offering facilities for family resorts, dynamic beachfront living, leisure, and entertainment. The Wetlands cover an area of 5.23 square kilometers, providing a golf course, luxury residential housing, boutique ecological hotels, and a waterfront ecological center. Saadiyat Island will eventually accommodate about 150,000 residents and be connected to Abu Dhabi by two 10-lane causeways.
