Introduction

The Naruto Whirlpools, located at the southern end of Awaji Island in Japan, is a historical and popular tourist attraction. Due to the narrowness of the Naruto Strait and the difference in water flow on both sides, the tidal changes in the seawater are drastic, with average speeds reaching 13 to 15 kilometers per hour and even reaching 20 kilometers per hour during high tides, making it one of the fastest flowing areas in Japan. When fast-moving currents encounter slower-moving currents, dangerous whirlpools are formed. During high tides, the Naruto Whirlpools can reach a diameter of about 20 meters, creating a spectacular sight. Visitors can take sightseeing boats to get a close-up view of the whirlpools or climb the 45-meter-high Uzunomichi and overlook the Naruto Strait from above.
