Introduction

The Zhili Governor's office is a well-preserved provincial-level yamen from the Qing dynasty, located in the prosperous area of Baoding city. Its origin can be traced back to the Yuan dynasty, and it settled in this location in the eighth year of the Kangxi reign. Since then, Baoding has become the political center of Zhili province, and has been serving as the military and political hub of the Qing dynasty's Zhili province until the Xuantong era. During this period, 74 governors worked and lived here, issuing military and political orders throughout the province. Many significant events had a direct impact on the provincial yamen, giving it a rich historical content. The architectural layout of the Zhili Governor's office inherits the features of its predecessors, and is influenced by the basic regulations of royal palaces and residences in Ming and Qing dynasty Beijing. It covers an area of over 30,000 square meters, and is divided into three sections: east, middle, and west. The middle section is well-preserved to this day. Its architectural elements and subsidiary buildings have left people with a solemn and mysterious impression.
