Introduction

Lake Baiyangdian is located in Hebei Province, within the boundaries of Baoding District. It is a national key tourist area and open area. The water area covers 366 square kilometers, making it the largest freshwater lake in the North China Plain. It is located 189 kilometers south of Shijiazhuang, 162 kilometers north of Beijing, and 155 kilometers east of Tianjin, making it a key area in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Lake Baiyangdian is the largest lake on the Haihe River Plain in China. It is located in the central part of Hebei Province. The lake is formed by the convergence of the Yongding River and Hutuo River at the alluvial fan at the foot of the Taihang Mountains. There are currently 143 lakes and ponds, with larger ones including Lake Baiyangdian, Shaoche Lake, Yangjiao Lake, Chiyu Lake, and Houtang Lake. The total area is 336 square kilometers. It receives water from rivers such as Puxi River, Tang River, Cao River, and Zhulong River from the north, west, and south. The average water storage capacity is 1.32 billion cubic meters. In order to control water levels in the lake area, the Zao Linzhuang Dam was built at the natural drainage outlet in the eastern part of Lake Baiyangdian, diverting water from the South Juma River, a northern branch of the Daqing River, to expand water sources. However, due to the large sediment content in the South Juma River, there is serious siltation, resulting in a continuous shrinking trend in the lake's area and volume. The lake is rich in aquatic resources, with over 50 species of freshwater fish, as well as extensive reed marshes and lotus ponds, earning it the title of "Pearl of North China." The story of the water guerrilla team, the Yanling Detachment, during the anti-Japanese war, is well-known. The lake dried up in 1982 but recovered after heavy rains in 1988, becoming a popular tourist destination. On May 8, 2007, the Anxin Baiyangdian Scenic Area in Baoding City was officially approved as a national 5A-level tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.
