Introduction

Wenhailake used to be an important passageway in the tea-horse ancient road of the Dian-Tibet line, and many caravans would stop here to let their mules and horses graze. It is said that there is a stone pillar to the south of Wenhailake, which is believed to be transformed by the sacred staff of the Gelugpa leader, Gama Rinpoche. Every late spring, the mountains and fields are filled with rhododendron flowers, and these colorful clusters of flowers are very beautiful. Here, you can find more than 20 types of rhododendron flowers out of the over 850 types found worldwide.
