Introduction

The Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum is a comprehensive museum with the theme of Xiamen's overseas Chinese history. It is the only overseas Chinese museum in China. It was initiated and established by the late patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee in September 1956, west of Fengchao Mountain in Xiamen, Fujian Province. It was completed at the end of 1958 and officially opened in May 1959. It covers an area of 50,000 square meters. The main building, with a construction area of over 4,000 square meters, is a palace-like building made of high-quality white stone. It has a newly built archway gate with a plaque written by Mr. Liao Chengzhi. Renowned British writer Han Suying referred to the Overseas Chinese Museum as a "unique museum of the history of overseas Chinese in the world."
