10 Lesser-Known Ancient Streets in Chongqing that Most People in Chongqing Don't Know (Part 1)

This ancient street in Chongqing, like a fascinating black and white photograph, retains the pure old Chongqing appearance. The rich market life, quaint old houses, the roads that cannot be reached by wearing high heels, and the missing persons encountered in office buildings are all the most precious textbooks of our Ba-Yu culture. Anyone, at any time, can feel unparalleled comfort and tranquility on these streets and corners with the memories of several generations, and at the same time, regain the nostalgia for old Chongqing.

Aries

Baoyangbei, the old street that can only be reached by ferry. It is located at the mouth of Wentangxia Gorge on the Jialing River and faces Chengjiang Ancient Town in Beibei across the river. The only way to travel here is by ferry. In the mid-1960s, the families of workers from Jialing Coal Mine moved from Eryan to Baoyangbei, where they built schools, supply and marketing cooperatives, and grocery stores. Life went on smoothly and happily. In the late 1990s, nearby coal resources were depleted, and the outdated ferry transportation caused a continuous outflow of population. Baoyangbei gradually lost its past liveliness. For Baoyangbei, this decline in population density is a decline, but for us, it means comfort. Time passes, and neither people nor things can escape the baptism of time. Put your heart where the sun shines, keep going, and it may still be wonderful.

Cuntan Street

The disappearing old street. Though Inch Beach Old Street is a small area, its road is unique, paved with various-sized blue stone slabs, bearing the deep and shallow imprints of the dreams built on mud.

Copper Can Post House

Take the green train for a day trip to the old street. At Caiyuanba Railway Station, take train No. 5612 to Tongguan Yizhan, then transfer to bus No. 435 to Shawan Station or walk to Tongguan Yizhao Old Street.

Railway Four Village

Tielusi Village is located along the railway line of Chongqing South Railway Station, and it is a relatively close old street to the main city.

Dragon Prosperous Town

The temple halls are a major feature of Longxing Old Street. Perhaps because of this, one street is specifically named "Temple Street". The most striking aspect is definitely the Huaxia ancestral hall, which requires a separate admission fee to enter and pay respects to ancestors. Some ancestral halls have gradually exited the historical stage and become mahjong halls where local residents pass their time, occasionally accompanied by the sound of tiles and scattered conversations, which is pleasing to the eye.
