Located 8 kilometers northwest of Yan'an city, this was originally a landlord's manor. It looks more upscale than Yangjialing and Wangjiaping, and is also called the 'Zhongnanhai of Yan'an.' The CCP's office in Yan'an was located here, which was the site of the CCP's Social Department, later renamed 'Yanyuan.'
The Yan'an Municipal Government collaborated with Alibaba, and Jack Ma visited here twice. The main buildings seem to take us back to the city of Yan'an in 1938.
The Kuomintang's First War Zone commander Hu Zongnan led 34 brigades with 250,000 troops to attack Yan'an. Under the leadership of the Central Committee and Chairman Mao, General Peng led the Northwest Field Army and 3 local brigades, totaling 25,000 people, through a year of arduous struggle and three major battles (First Battle, Second Battle, Panlong Town, Three Battles at Yangma River), achieving a decisive victory in the Yan'an Defense War.
Originally located at the junction of Nanguan, it was one of the earliest places to establish a museum after the founding of the People's Republic of China. In 1954, it was relocated to the former site of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in Yangjialing and renamed 'Yan'an Museum'. In 1955, it was moved to the old site at the foot of Phoenix Mountain and renamed 'Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall'. In June 1973, it was relocated to its current site in Wangjiaping.
Pagoda Hill
Pagoda Hill is located in Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, and is named after the pagoda built on the hill. From the top of Pagoda Hill, you can have a bird's-eye view of the entire Yan'an. As an important symbol and landmark of the revolutionary holy land Yan'an, Pagoda Hill is a must-visit place when touring Yan'an. Pagoda Hill is a tourist attraction that combines natural scenery, cultural landscapes, historical relics, and revolutionary sites.
A hundred years ago, this place was sparsely populated, with abundant water sources, fertile land, prosperous production, and a thriving economy. In the mid-Qing Dynasty, the Qing rulers incited conflicts between the Hui and Han ethnic groups, leading to mutual slaughter. This turned the area into a wasteland overgrown with wild grass and thorns, rarely visited by people, and ravaged by wild beasts.
The Yellow River has ninety-nine bends, and when it flows to Hukou, the thousand-meter riverbed quickly converges, forming the saying 'The Yellow River in the world is collected in one pot'. Hukou is like the spout of a teapot, hence the name Hukou.
