Dian-Tibet line | Key point on the Southern Silk Road (5)

Entering Tibet along the 214 National Road from Kunming is the famous "Southern Silk Road" Tea Horse Ancient Road. Compared to the Baima County, the Yunnan-Tibet Line has a long history, well-developed infrastructure, and lower difficulty for self-driving. Along the way, there are not only beautiful scenic views but also various ancient trail remains. If you want to experience the lost mule caravan culture, this route is not to be missed!

Ranwu Lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains on one side, while the other side is scattered with grasslands and forests, occasionally interspersed with Tibetan tribes.
Lulang Pasture is located on a plateau over 3000 meters above sea level, making it the highest natural pasture in the country. The meadows here are flat, and during the spring and summer when flowers bloom, it transforms into a sea of flowers. A half-hour drive from the pasture leads to a viewing platform where you can gaze at Mount Namjagbarwa in the distance.
The average depth of the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon is 2,268 meters, with the deepest point reaching 6,009 meters. Its depth and width are the highest in the world, surpassing even the Grand Canyon in the United States.
If the weather is clear, you may be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the peak of Namjagbarwa Peak after the clouds disperse.

Midui Glacier

Midui Glacier is located in Mimei and Midui villages of Yupu Township, Bomi County, about 90 kilometers from the county seat, Zhamu Town. The Midui Glacier is formed by the confluence of world-class ice waterfalls, each over 800 meters high and more than 1000 meters wide. Between the two waterfalls lies a stretch of primeval forest. The surrounding area of the glacier is adorned with blooming mountain flowers and lush forests, creating a picturesque scene. The lower section of the glacier traverses through a mixed forest of coniferous and broad-leaved trees. It is the most significant maritime glacier in Tibet and one of the three major maritime glaciers in China.

Basum Lake

Basum Lake is a sacred lake of the Nyingma sect (Red Sect) of Tibetan Buddhism. The Red Sect temple on the island in the middle of the lake was built in the late Tang Dynasty. If interested, you can take a yacht to visit.

Mila Mountain

After Basum Lake, head west along the Linla Highway. After passing Gongbujiangda, continue driving for 95 kilometers to reach Mila Mountain. There is a viewing platform at the Mila Mountain pass where you can capture the beautiful scenery of the snow-capped Mila Mountain surrounded by mountains. Mila Mountain is the boundary between Lhasa and Nyingchi, and also the dividing line of the landforms, vegetation, and climate of the two places.
Potala Palace was first built in the 7th century and has a history of nearly a thousand years. It has now become a landmark of Tibet. The palace is located on Red Hill in the city center at an altitude of 3,800 meters. Inside the palace, there are collections of stupas, statues, murals, and more, making it a revered destination for many pilgrims.
