Experience a different Zhenglan Banner in Inner Mongolia

Among the 34 provincial-level administrative regions in China, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is the "longest" one. When it is mentioned, almost everyone will say the phrase "the wind blows the grass low, revealing the cattle and sheep." This fixed image, just like every Inner Mongolian person being asked if they go to school on horseback, has become a kind of mental stereotype. To understand different aspects of Zhenglan Banner, you need to go and see these locations.

Zhenglan Banner

Zhenglan Banner is a banner of Xilin Gol League in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is located in the southern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, at the southern end of the paradise grassland Xilin Gol League, only 180 kilometers in a straight line from the capital Beijing, making it the closest typical grassland area to Beijing. The northern part of this area is Hunshandake Sandy Land, showcasing the natural scenery of sandy grasslands; the southern part is low mountains and hills, displaying the beautiful landscape of meadow grasslands.

Site of Xanadu

This city site, praised by historians as comparable to the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy, is the center of the 13th century, Xanadu. I have imagined how prosperous and flourishing it must have been back then. It is not only a precious human cultural heritage but also one of the birthplaces of nomadic civilization.

Yuan Shangdu Museum

The Yuan Shangdu Museum building was designed by Li Xinggang, Deputy Chief Architect of the China Architectural Design and Research Institute and the chief Chinese designer of the 'Bird's Nest'. The museum is designed and arranged by integrating the mountain and fully utilizing the abandoned mining site. It encapsulates the historical trajectory from the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty to the formation and development of Mongolian-Yuan culture. The museum houses approximately 60,000 rare items including ceramics, bronzes, jade artifacts, paleontological fossils, wooden artifacts, ancient coins, and more. It also features a recovered white marble dragon-carved corner pillar.

Hongtu Naor

Hongtu Naor means Swan Lake, located within the territory of Zagastai Sumu in Zhenglan Banner. It is the most beautiful 'Naor' in Zhenglan Banner. Hundreds of migratory birds such as swans and wild geese gather here, leisurely strolling or playing in the water in small groups, reflecting with the sparkling water surface.

Located at an altitude of 1597 meters, it was known as Wanshou Mountain during the Yuan Dynasty and served as a royal hunting ground. Kublai Khan once hunted here. During the Qing Dynasty, it was designated as the Chahar Zhengbai Niuqun Suluke sacrificial Aobao.
