Edinburgh is close to Skye, and the Lake District is near Manchester. If you only have one day, Skye is better, but you'll be in a rush. The Highlands depend on which area you're referring to. When I went to the UK in 2015, I went from London all the way to Glasgow, passing through places that can also be called the Highlands.
