Excuse me, is the fueling for Road trip in Spain paid in cash or by card? Is it self-service or staffed ?

It's cash, self-service.

I drove 3,000 kilometers, and I never used cash to refuel. I always swiped my card, so I didn't need to carry a lot of cash. It's not safe.

Either is okay. Let's just pay in cash. It won't waste any time.

There are both self-service and staff-assisted gas stations. They are different. Credit cards can basically be used during the day, while self-service is basically used at night, and cash is pressed first.

Most large gas stations can accept both cash and credit cards, while some small gas stations are unmanned and accept both cash and cards. It's rare to encounter a gas station that only accepts cards, and even rarer for our credit card to not be recognized. Luckily, a local person kindly helped us by using their card and we paid them in cash. The people of Spain are really great, thumbs up!
