Introduction

Gothenburg ends with a boulevard as the southern endpoint, and at the end of the boulevard lies the cultural center of Gothenburg-Gothia Plaza. In the center of the square is a fountain with Miller's statue of the Greek sea god Poseidon towering, which was built in 1931 and represents the symbolic power of Gothenburg as a marine city. Poseidon's statue is strong and muscular, with his right hand holding a large fish and his left hand supporting a shell. Springs flow from the mouth of the fish and the shell, seeming to remind people of the essence of the city's ocean. Although this male sea god is not handsome, his image shows people the unique charm of Gothenburg.
