Wuyuan's Huizhou-style architectural viewing guide

Wuyuan is known for its ancient houses surrounded by mountains, secluded courtyards, exquisite roofs, elaborate gatehouses, gentle halls, beautiful wooden windows, and the iconic horsehead walls that serve as cultural totems. These are the most eye-catching symbols of Huizhou architecture and vividly represent the history and social culture of the Wuyuan region. So, where can you see Huizhou architecture in Wuyuan?

Liking Village

In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was the most prosperous and formed a unique group of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The large number and complete preservation are extremely rare in China. Compared with the well-known Xishan and Hongcun for many years, Likeng has its own pride that is not inferior to the previous game. If you like Huizhou culture, if you want to stop for a while in the passage of time, then you must go to Likeng to take a look.

Yancun

In history, Yan village, known for its merchants, had many houses built during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong and Jiaqing periods. At its peak, the entire village had four ancestral temples and over 100 large residences. When it rained or snowed, the villagers could walk from one end of the village to the other without getting wet, thanks to the covered walkways. The official residences in Wuyuan emphasized grandeur, while the merchant houses focused on wealth. The ancient buildings in Yan village reflect the prayers of the merchants.

Xiaori Village

Ancient and elegant Ming and Qing dynasties dwellings, winding and peaceful streets, stone-paved post roads, pristine natural environment, nestled among lush ancient trees. The harmonious blend of heaven and humanity makes it a unique ancient cultural and ecological village in China. The majority of the dwellings are of Ming and Qing architectural style, with unique features. The grand and magnificent official residences, such as the "Jinshi Mansion," "Dafu Mansion," and "Ronglu Mansion," are particularly captivating.
This village was initially founded in the early Northern Song Dynasty. It is a settlement of the Hong family, located in a narrow and winding valley, surrounded by mountains and flowing streams. In the village, there are clan buildings such as Guangyu Hall and Sanshu Hall. The inscriptions of "Tea Rules," "Health River," and "Forever Prohibited from Gambling" are witness to the clan system.
Built in the Southern Song Dynasty, Hongguan Ancient Village is known as the "unparalleled key to Wu and Chu, the first pass of Huizhou ancient road". The whole village is embedded in the natural scenery of Jin Feng Xiu Ling, Qingxi Bihe, achieving a beautiful artistic conception of the clever integration of houses and natural environment. The ancient buildings of Hongguan in the Ming and Qing dynasties are well-preserved, each with its own characteristics. The house design is elegant and generous, with a large number of brick carvings and exquisite wood carving art.
