Introduction

The first place where Europeans landed and settled in Europe is a port located 27 kilometers south of Invercargill. This is the departure point for ships to Stewart Island. If you enjoy hiking and have enough time, be sure to take a walk on the Foveaux Walk (6.6 kilometers, round trip takes 2.5 hours). You can pass through the landmark Stirling Point, which is the starting point of the country's most important SH1 highway from south to north (or the end from north to south, after all, it is more desolate here). From Stirling Point, you can also reach Bluff Hill Lookout, which offers stunning views of the coastline. Of course, you can't miss Bluff's most famous specialty-oysters. Oysters can be tasted from March to June or July every year, and if you visit in May, you can also participate in the food festival. But remember to book your accommodation in advance during the festival. If you need more information, you can consult the Bluff Service Center.
