Introduction

St. Mary's Cathedral is the main cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church in the Perth diocese, led by Bishop Salvador, located in the center of Victoria Square in East Perth, Western Australia. The cathedral has undergone three significant construction phases since 1863. The first phase was completed in 1863, followed by the second phase in 1920, which saw the construction of the Gothic-style main building and its use as a refuge during the Great Depression. In 1990, the cathedral faced extensive restoration work, including addressing issues with the curved design, functional expansion, operation, and funding. Due to the need for a comprehensive renovation, the cathedral temporarily stopped services in August 2006 and underwent extensive repairs for five months. During this time, Victoria Park became the site of the Holy Spirit for the Perth diocese. The cathedral reopened in December 2009, completing the third phase of construction, which is the current appearance.
