Introduction

In 1988, the World Heritage Committee evaluated that Guanajuato City was founded in the early 16th century and became the world's most important silver mining center by the 18th century. The "underground streets" in the city are evidence of this history, and the entire city's underground tunnels have been converted into a road network.
