Introduction
The ruins known as Maya site were mainly dedicated to the moon and fertility goddess Ixchel, and were discovered by Francisco in 1517. The explorers found many female clay figurines here, but it is uncertain if these figurines all represent Ixchel or other goddesses. In 1988, Hurricane Gilbert almost destroyed the entire site.
