Introduction

In 1837, architect Joseph Pilié designed Oak Alley Plantation, a 24-acre property located on the west bank of the Mississippi River near New Orleans. The plantation was named after the alley of oak trees that runs 240 meters in front of the property. Oak Alley Plantation was a famous filming location for the movie "Gone with the Wind," which depicted the American South during the Civil War period.
