Introduction

Located in the center of the circular flower bed on the grounds of the Iolani Palace, the towering gold-plated bronze statue depicts the first king of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Kamehameha. Set on a pedestal of white marble, the king wears a golden helmet, a large cloak draped over his shoulders, and holds a spear in his left hand while raising his right arm high, revealing his heroic and powerful image. Today, this statue is regarded as the best representation of the king's likeness, even though its original form wasn't perfect. The sculptor reportedly chose to enhance the king's features to make him even more attractive and regal. The verdant grass and colorful flowers of the flower bed, along with the monumental statue, provide a stunning and grand sight.
