Introduction

Volcán Poás, located about 50 kilometers northwest of San José, the capital of Costa Rica, is an active volcano and one of the largest active craters in the world. The crater contains a volcanic lake that constantly emits sulfur fumes, with a pH value close to 0, which is one of the most acidic lakes in the world.
