St Michael's Mount, A Tidal Island with a Medieval Castle

Marazion, TR17 0EL, United Kingdom
4.7

Introduction

St. Michael's Mount is one of the famous landmarks in Cornwall, located on an island in the middle of the water. The connecting road between the island and the mainland is paved with pebbles and is submerged by seawater during high tide. In 1135, the French occupied the island and handed it over to the monks of St. Michael's Mount to build a new monastery, which was later used as a fortress. After being operated by three owners, the current owner donated it to the National Trust for visitors to visit. However, their family still lives inside the castle and manages visiting operations, as the National Trust allows them to live there for another 999 years. It is a historical landmark where Queen Victoria has visited before and Queen Elizabeth also visited on May 17, 2013.
