Exeter Cathedral, A Timeless Sanctuary of Serenity
The Cloisters, Exeter EX1 1HS
4.6
Introduction
This church was built in 1050 for gatherings, and gradually became the main bishop church in Exeter after the bishop's seat moved from the nearby town. The bishops gathered here because Exeter's Roman City Wall provided better protection against pirates. Today, there is a statue of 16th-century English Anglican theologian Richard Hook outside the church, who was born in Exeter. The statue pays tribute to his achievements.
