San Bernardino alle Ossa, A Solemn Tribute to Life and Death

Via Carlo Giuseppe Marlo 4, 20122 Milan

Introduction

This Baroque-style church was built to commemorate the innocent children who died in the plague in the early 17th century. Flash photography is not allowed inside the church. The ossuary inside the church is a famous attraction, with human bones decorating a side hall. In 1210, the cemetery near the church no longer had enough space, so a new building was built near the cemetery to store the bones of the deceased. In 1267, a new church was built and decorated in 1679. In 1712, the church was destroyed by fire and later rebuilt.
