Introduction

This medieval tower has been converted into a museum to commemorate the Renaissance pioneer Dante. Inside, there are exhibits of Dante's publications, portraits of family members, and domestic scenes from the time. The library inside holds books and documents related to Dante from around the world, and often hosts Dante seminars. Visitors interested in the Renaissance or Dante can go for a visit, but may find it uninteresting if lacking in interest. Dante wrote that he was born in the Santo Martino district, near the Badia Florentine church, but it is uncertain whether this building was his birthplace. He first met Beatrice at the nearby Chiesa di Santa Margherita de' Cerchi.
