Introduction
The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, located on the square of the same name in Florence, is the headquarters of the Servite Order, established by seven founders in 1250. The painting of the Annunciation in the cathedral was created by a monk, but he abandoned it, believing that only angels could complete such a beautiful work of art. The painting was highly respected and was placed in the cathedral. In 1444, the Gondi family of Mantua donated a special altar to the church, which was completed in 1481. The facade of the cathedral was added by architect Giovanni Battista Caccini in 1601, modeled after the facade of the Ospedale degli Innocenti by Brunelleschi. The interior is filled with art masterpieces from the 14th to the 19th century and is a worth-visiting place. Address Piazza della Santissima Annunziata
