Introduction
The Ponte alle Grazie in Florence spans the Arno River. Originally built in 1227, it was reconstructed in 1345 with nine arches and is now one of the oldest and longest bridges in Florence. In 1347, two arches on the bridge were blocked to widen Mozzi square. Buildings were once present on the bridge but were removed in 1876 to make way for the railway. During World War II in 1944, the Ponte alle Grazie was destroyed by retreating German troops. After the war, a design competition was held to rebuild the bridge, and the new Ponte alle Grazie was completed in 1953. Address Piazza Carlo Goldini Santa Croce
