Introduction
The Old Bridge is an iconic building in Florence, located on the Arno River, and has stood since the Middle Ages, witnessing the rise and fall of the city. Initially, the Old Bridge was a place for selling pork, but later it was converted into jewelry shops by Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici. To avoid taking the same route as common people, Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici built the Vasari Corridor, which connected the Palazzo Vecchio and the Palazzo Pitti, hanging above the Old Bridge. Nowadays, the Old Bridge is a gathering place for Florence's most famous gold and jewelry shops, most of which are handcrafted. It is said that the Old Bridge is also the place where Dante and his wife met, so many couples lock their love locks on the bridge railings to show their love.
