Introduction
Piazza della Signoria, also known as "Lord's Square", is the central square of Florence, named after its proximity to the town hall. Although not very large, the square is home to many sculptures, including the famous replica of Michelangelo's David (the original is now in the Accademia Gallery), as well as the Fountain of Neptune, the equestrian statue of Cosimo I, lion statues, and the head of Medusa held by Perseus.
An open space surrounded by famous buildings like Palazzo Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery, as well as cafes and bars, Piazza della Signoria is also a hub for street performers and clowns.
It is the birthplace of the Republic of Florence and still serves as the political center of the city. Today, it remains a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike, with Palazzo Vecchio and its crenellated tower standing proudly in the square since the 14th century. Transportation The municipal square is located in the center of the old town, and cars are generally not allowed to pass through, so it is reached by walking.
